Good Morning,

Bioenterprise Corporation, located in Guelph, Ontario is seeking to find undergraduate students enrolled in a film program, or who have experience or interest in producing short films.

We are a non-for-profit business accelerator established to help promote the creation, growth and expansion of businesses in the Agri-Food and Agri-Life Sciences and Bioproduct Industries. Bioenterprise works with and discovers unique, Canadian companies that, in our opinion, are compelling, global opportunities.

This will be the second year we are offering an internship to select students, promoting Canadian innovations. In our pilot program, our two students enjoyed their experience immensely and were able to advance their skills in film production. The following link will guide you to our YouTube channel, to view their videos:

If you would kindly let us know if your students might be interested in participating we will organize a time for us to chat. This is an excellent hands-on experience for students, and will provide them with physical evidence of their film production capabilities for their portfolios.

Your response will be appreciated as we prepare to launch the program for its second year. T24 Festival Call for Entries

Dear Centennial College Film and Broadcasting Faculty

The Toronto Youth Shorts Film Festival is a platform for local youth filmmakers in the GTA to showcase their films on the big screen in a professional festival setting. We're the only festival in the city that puts the spotlight on young emerging filmmakers and a highlight on local stories and local productions.

Last year, we launched a new initiative called the T24 Project, a film challenge that tasks young filmmakers to tell their stories about the city on the big screen. Young filmmakers form teams and create a short film that incorporates their experiences in Toronto - the catch is, they must do it all in 24 hours!

This is a great opportunity, particularly for first year students to practice their skills, learn their strengths and weaknesses, produce work for a professional festival, receive feedback via a live adjudication by industry professionals including other festival programmers and film critics and win some great prizes that can be used towards their next project. It's a great learning opportunity and a networking one where they will meet their peers who are also striving to be a part of the industry.

The T24 Project is conveniently held on the evening of April 29th, after exams are over. Deadline for registration is April 27th.
All information can be found on our website at www.torontoyouthshorts.ca. We also have a general submission all for work produced by students on their own or for class.

I hope to see Centennial College Students come out and participate in this exciting endeavour. In previous years, we've seen participants come from every major film program in the GTA except Centennial and as a Centennial College alumni (class of 2009, Event Management Postgrad program), it would be nice to see some Centennial representation.

Cheers,

Henry Wong

The T24 Project was one of the best experiences in filmmaking that I have had to date. Bringing together a team and producing a short film over 24 fun and exhilarating hours was the highlight of 2010 and will be again an amazing experience in 2011. I gained an excellent understanding of how I work under pressure, as well as learning a lot about the different skills that my crew had to offer. It was a tiring and difficult endeavour that every filmmaker should try, at least once (if not every year that Henry decides to keep it running!)
- Jamie McMillan, participant of the 2010 T24 Project

Toronto Youth Shorts is a great launching point for any aspiring filmmaker. It gave me my first festival experience and the staff accommodated me with warmth and kindness.
- Philbert Lui, participant of the 2010 T24 Project - winner of the Audience Choice Award

In my opinion the T24 Project film challenge is close to being an essential task for any up and coming film maker. The learning curve is steep and even if the result of your film is less than amazing what you learn about the process and demands of film making is priceless.

B&F Students Land NSI Selection!

Fighting the Demon by Centennial College students Taylor Sullivan and Michelle Tierney has been selected for the NSI Online Short Film Festival.

Fighting the Demon by Taylor Sullivan and Michelle Tierney from Toronto, Ontario has been selected for the NSI Online Short Film Festival. The festival is hosted by the National Screen Institute – Canada (NSI) a national training school widely known for its prestigious training programs for Canadian writers, directors and producers working in film and television.

Fighting the Demon is about a rehabilitated Artist confronting his suicidal tendencies and drug additions with his brush and canvas. He reflects on the time drugs pushed him to the edge. He gazed in the abyss, but was unable to jump. His past illusions continue to haunt his every moment, but can he possibly paint his demons away? They say the pen is mightier than the sword, but can the brush fight off the never-ending waves of memory?

The NSI Online Short Film Festival is the only year-round, 100% Canadian online film festival. New films are added to the NSI website weekly and over 140 Canadian short films are available to watch in the growing archive of short film. All NSI website content can be accessed for free. In August, you can watch the film on the NSI Website.

All films selected to play in the festival are automatically considered for the A&E Short Filmmakers Award which recognizes excellence in filmmaking and awards $2,500 to the winner.
